Our Story

Catherine Clark and Tammy White come from backgrounds of midwifery and shepherding, and, for the love of wool, bring to you ‘Wool Works’.

Wool Works was born on the porch of a farmhouse in New England, in sight and earshot of the sweetest lambs, and their ma’ams, who grazed nearby. Catherine and Tammy rocked on the porch, sipping tea, thinking of a gathering where they could shine a spotlight on the world of wool, support the maker community, and promote natural fibers, simultaneously spreading joy and good will.

Catherine wears many hats, running several businesses, out of her home in Brooklyn, New York.  She is a midwife, designer, event coordinator and the proprietress of Brooklyn General Store.  Tammy, similarly busy, runs Wing & A Prayer Farm, is an event coordinator, and natural dyer in Shaftsbury, Vermont.

There are many overlaps in their worlds, with foundations in caregiving and supporting those around them, be they human or animal, and in using their hands in healing and creating beauty and community around them.

Values

Wool Works is committed to the inclusion and recognition of all people regardless of race, age, culture, ability, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic status. We are committed to making Wool Works a safe and welcoming space, and we will not tolerate any behavior that contradicts this commitment from vendors, sponsors, instructors, volunteers, or attendees. We pledge to foster and cultivate equitable practices that honor our community’s diversity with respect to race, gender, sexuality, age, ability, and access needs. As women business owners, we will commit to always learning, acknowledging, and growing more. We welcome your thoughts, feedback, and ideas on how we can make our events inclusive and inviting to all.
